UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Sheikh

UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Sheikh said on Tuesday that he is working on a comprehensive proposal including humanitarian initiatives for return all parties to negotiating table, confirm that the new proposal includes initiatives and political solutions for crisis in Yemen.

Speaking to a UN Security Council session on the situation in Yemen, Sheikh Ahmed said some of conflict’s people in Yemen were benefiting from the conflict but most of Yemeni people lose more in this war.

He said that the war led to the worst outbreak of cholera in history, which led to death of more than 2,100 people, and called Security Council to use all his efforts and influence to pressure all parties to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis.

“Unless parties show more flexibility, the threat of terrorism in Yemen will increase.”

He pointed out that bombing of Sanaa on 15 and 18 last September , killed a number of civilians, including 8 children, and a raid on 25 last August killed 24 people.

“About 17 million people can not get food in Yemen and the country is facing a severe famine,” he said.

The envoy called Security Council to use its influence to stop the conflict in Yemen, confirm that delivery of aid to Hodeidah and opening of Sanaa airport is a necessary and urgent step.
